Elementary ELA/ELD Instructional Materials Pilot

Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) is excited to begin the process of piloting and adopting English Language Arts and English Language Development (ELA/ELD) materials for K-6 students.  Each NMUSD school site has the opportunity to have one primary grade teacher (K-2)  and one upper grade teacher (3rd-6th) participate in piloting materials in their classroom.

ELA/ELD Pilot Adoption Process

Two sets of ELA/ELD materials will be piloted. Each set of materials will be piloted for six weeks. When After both sets of materials have been piloted for six weeks (twelve weeks total), teachers who piloted materials will collectively make a decision on which materials to recommend for adoption. Upon Board approval, the recommended materials will be implemented in every K-6 classroom beginning in the fall of 2017.

 

Pilot Round One (January 23 - March 10)

K-6 Benchmark Advance
All K-6 pilot teachers will begin the pilot with ELA/ELD materials from Benchmark Education Company’s, Benchmark Advance.

K-6 Reading Wonders
For the second six week pilot process, all K-6 pilot teachers will use materials from McGraw-Hill’s Reading Wonders.
