The Karen Kendall Welcome Center is designed to assist all parents/ students with the pre-enrollment process for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD). Our goal is to provide you with the most welcoming experience possible.

New Student Enrollment for the 2019-20 school year

We are only enrolling students for the 2019-20 school year currently.

Follow the steps listed below to complete your student's enrollment.

Address Verification is required for new students and any current students who have moved within the Newport-Mesa Unified School District boundaries.

The following documentation will be helpful for the verification process. At least one item from each section must be provided in person.

OPTION 1:  Primary residents, please complete this section.

Please review the items below to indicate the form of verification of identity you will submit as the student's parent, caregiver, licenses foster agency or group home representative, or California Superior Court-appointed legal guardian:

  • If an agent or representative of Social Services of Foster Care agency, appropriate identification.

Section 1: Verification of current residence must match the address verification being verified, and one of the following documents must be provided: (PO Box addresses are NOT accepted)

  • Property tax bill with parent/guardian name and property address. To obtain a copy of this document, contact your local Treasurer Tax Collector's office at: (714) 834-3411.
  • Rental/ Lease agreement with parent/guardian name and address, including the property management's owner's contact information.
  • If rental/lease agreement is not current, please provide the agreement with the previous two months rental receipts with the property management's/owner's contact information.

Section 2: Verification of current residence must match address being verified and one of the following additional documents must be provided: (Disconnection  Utility Notices are not accepted)

  • Current  Utility Bill (Gas or Electric)
  • Current Phone Bill
  • Current Income Tax documents
  • Current Vehicle Registration
  • Current Medi-Cal Letter of Approval
  • Current Women, Infants, Children (WIC) Letter

OPTION 2:  Co-Residents, please complete this section.

Please review the items below to indicate the form of verification of identity you will submit as the student's parent, caregiver, licenses foster agency or group home representative, or California Superior Court-appointed legal guardian:

  • If an agent or representative of Social Services of Foster Care agency, appropriate identification.

Section 1:  The parent/guardian/caregiver who is co-residing (renting a room) with another family or individual is required to provide one of the following items below:

  • Current Vehicle Registration with parent/guardian name and current address
  • Current Payroll Stub with parent/guardian name and current address
  • Current Bank Statement with parent/guardian name and current address
  • Current Income Tax Document with parent/guardian name and current address
  • Current Medical Letter of Approval with parent/guardian name and current address
  • Current Women, Infants, Children (WIC) Letter with parent/guardian name and current address

OPTION 3:  US Military Personnel Only, please complete this section.

Section 1: 

  • Photograph of U.S. Uniformed Services ID (front & back)

Section 2:  TWO of the following documents must be provided:

  • Active Duty Military: Copy of active duty military (PCS) orders (SSN Redacted)
  • Retired/Separated: Copy of retirement/separation orders and final DD-214 (SSN Redacted)
  • Proof of Residency: Lease agreement or closing disclosure (formerly HUD-1)
  • Letter in lieu for Expedited Military Family Enrollment is acceptable.

If you are the student's caregiver, you must present a Caregiver's Affidavit form (Provided by NMUSD)

The pre-enrollment process and required documentation  is needed for all new students or students returning after being out of the District for 12 consecutive months or more.

We cannot process your child's Pre-enrollment without the documents below.

Parent/Guardian must provide the following documents

The following documents are required for entry into any of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District schools.

# 1:   Address Verification Confirmation Number

To obtain a Confirmation Number, the parent/guardian must complete Address Verification first. The system will automatically generate the Confirmation Number and email it to the parent/guardian with instructions on how to do the Online Pre-Enrollment.

# 2:   Verification of Age

Proof of Age can include a certified copy of a birth certificate, copy of a birth records or statement by the local registrar, or a county recorder certifying the date or birth, or a baptism certificate duly attested, or a passport, or when none of the forgoing is obtainable, an affidavit of the parent/guardian or custodian of the minor, or any other appropriate means of proving the age of the child.

# 3:   Immunization Card (Up to date for school entry)

# 4:   Student Physical Exam and Tuberculosis Screening Form (Pre-K - 1st Grades Only)

Visit Health Services for more information in regards to required School Immunizations, Student Physical Exam, and Tuberculosis Screening.

# 5:   Custody, Guardianship, Restraining Order (if applicable)

If legal custody, the parent/guardian must provide a copy of the court order.

# 6:   Report Cards/ Transcripts and 504 Plans/ IEP (Special Education)

Please note that the school will ask for a current report card or transcript, as well as any 504 Plan and IEP information to your student in order to help place them in school. A Records Request Form can also be obtained from either the enrollment website, the Karen Kendall Welcome Center, or your local school.

 

Pre-Enrollment Process:

Parent/Guardian please complete the Online Pre-Enrollment

Before completing the Pre-enrollment process online for your child, you will need the following information:

  • General information about the student
  • Parent/Guardian's home and work address and phone number
  • Emergency contacts information (relationship to student, name, address, and phone numbers)
  • Physician's name and contact information
  • Information on student's health and dietary issues, medications being taken
  • Information of the previous school attended
  • A valid email address for Parent/Guardian with password. If you do not have an e-mail account, please create one now. An e-mail will be sent as part of the Pre-enrollment process. Since some e-mail services block our automated message, we strongly recommend adding abi@nmusd.us to your Safe Sender list or Contacts. Thank you

To start the Online Pre-Enrollment, parent/guardian please go to this link: https:www.nmusd.us/preenroll

  • You will need the Confirmation Number stated in the Address Verification emailed Ticket. Please complete before expiration date.
  • Print the Online Pre-Enrollment and provide a signed copy to the Welcome Center.

Once you have completed online Pre-enrollment using the link and address verification number sent to you, you will be contacted within two business days to finalize the enrollment process. Please remember that the enrollment process is not complete until your student's information and supporting documents have been accepted by your local school.

Tips for successful enrollment:

  • Provide all documents to the Welcome Center at once when applying for Pre-enrollment.
  • Our offices close at 3 pm, the average process time takes about 45 minutes and depending on the number of children being enrolled.
  • Please expect a delay in response to messages as we are attending to new students.
  • Please note that all families will be assigned a Welcome Center Staff member to assist in the entire Pre-enrollment process.
