Overview:
This project was originally planned to be conducted in two phases, however, in an effort to minimize the downtime of the pool, the district is making efforts to combine both construction phases.
The original phase of this project, currently awaiting design and DSA approval, includes a remodel of the aquatics complex, including installation of shade structures, replacement of bleachers, addition of sports lighting and relocation of the scoreboard. The additional phase is in the preliminary scoping stage and may include pool plaster and deck repairs, remodel of locker rooms, restrooms, showers and coaches’ offices.
Status as of January 2023:
The project is currently in early design. The budget for this project was Board approved July 13, 2021, and the architect design contract was Board approved August 17, 2021.
District staff will continue to work with school administration and the City of Newport Beach to relocate aquatic activities during construction, as the pool will not be available during construction. All efforts will be made to minimize pool closure timing and impact to aquatics programs.
Construction commencement is being evaluated to minimize downtime for the pool, and to lessen the impact on the school and community users.

Overview
In 2015, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District approved and later completed the Costa Mesa High School Sports Complex, which included a stadium with bleacher seating for 997 spectators, replacing the existing track and field with a synthetic field and rubber track, and providing a press box, concession/restroom buildings, storage building, fencing, and lighting.
The District is now considering a proposal to expand the seating capacity of both home and visitor sides to a total of 2,000 seats. Both permanent and temporary bleachers are included in the plan. The project also includes a new team room, restrooms, various site improvements, and relocation of the visitor light stanchions.
The District will work with a consultant to prepare CEQA documentation for the proposed stadium expansion for staff to understand all implications of expansion.
Status as of January 2023:
The Board approved the District to pursue CEQA documentation in the October 25, 2022 board meeting.
A construction start date for this project has not been determined.
