December 2017: Construction Update

Construction Update

We continue to advance in our commitment to ensure that students are educated in modern facilities that foster high levels of learning. In any given moment, we have multiple facility projects that are in planning, design or construction phase. Highlights of some of the projects are featured below:

Corona del Mar (CdM) High School:

CdM Learning Resource Center

  • Learning Resource Center (LRC) - Construction on the conversion of the school library into a modern LRC is making progress with construction expected to be complete in early 2018. The LRC includes an open floor plan with collaborative and computer spaces. It also include three study rooms and a small conference room. This project was made possible by the CdM Foundation’s commitment to raise the funds for the project.
  • Sports Fields – The sports field project at CdM has been approved and will include upgrades to two fields. Upgrades include a synthetic-turf field, seating replacement and lighting on both fields, as well as a rubber track.

Estancia High School:

  • Pool - Installation of a 50-meter pool has been delayed due to unexpectedly high construction bids. Staff is reviewing the project scope and is making revisions to decrease construction costs, while still building an adequate facility that meets the needs of the school. The opening of the new pool is now expected in early 2019.

Ensign Intermediate School:

  • Gymnasium Repairs - As a result of a fire from fall 2016, planning for the repairs to the gymnasium are currently in progress. Repairs and upgrades are expected to include:
    1. Rebuilt girls locker room
    2. Reconfigured boys and girls lockers and path of travel
    3. Upgraded restrooms and girls locker rooms
