Trustee Area Boundary Map

Overview

Newport-Mesa Unified School District has seven Board of Education members who are each elected to four-year terms. The terms are staggered by two years. Board elections are held during the general election in November of even numbered years.

Board members are required to reside in the trustee area they represent and are elected in by-trustee area election.

2022 Proposed trustee area mapping

California Education Code 5019.5 prescribes the following:  The boundaries of the trustee areas shall be adjusted by the governing board of each school district before the first day of March of the year following the year in which the results of each decennial census are released.

Trustee area boundaries were adopted by the District in 2018.

At the Board meeting on January 11, 2022, the Board and community received a presentation pertaining to Trustee Area Boundaries and related legal requirements.  The Board directed a study session to be held for further review of Trustee Area Maps.

Further review of Trustee Area Maps took place at a study session held on February 1, 2022. Below are the four Conceptual Trustee Area Scenarios that were presented for review.
